“Dead Reckoning” and the Parallel Truths Campaign
The graphic novel anthology campaign is officially fully funded on Kickstarter, and we are down to the absolute final 48 hours. Because this project is a limited-run Kickstarter exclusive, there won’t be traditional retail shelf space or future printings — once the clock runs out on Friday, June 26th, the window closes permanently.
For me, this project is deeply personal. My story in the anthology, “Dead Reckoning,” sits right at the heart of the Reckoning Cycle — my gothic paranormal romance universe. It is the direct fiction counterpart to the obsessive maritime history research I document over at Fathoms Deep.
The narrative follows a ship’s navigator who makes a chilling, impossible discovery: she is steering two overlapping voyages simultaneously — one carrying the living safely across the waves, and one ferrying the dead through a fractured, haunting reality. It is a meditation on the thin line between what we can prove and what we choose to believe, built entirely from the historical archives and maritime folklore I’ve been tracking for years.
(And for those who follow my high fantasy work, don’t worry — the Dimidium Universe and the Mountain Bond saga are still processing safely in the background, but my heart is thoroughly down in the dark maritime depths for this one.)
It is an incredible privilege to see the Reckoning Cycle expanding into a graphic medium. The anthology features legendary speculative fiction creators including Andy Weir (The Martian, Project Hail Mary) and comics icon Tony Lee (Jack Gatland), and the stories are being brought to life by world-class illustrators. The result is a 248-page oversized volume that is genuinely something to hold.
